So near, yet so far. People are keeping their fingers crossed as Lucknow lad Vinit Singh struggles in the finals of the ‘musical mahayudh’ to rake in votes.
Trailing his opponent Debojit, in the voting poll from across India, Vinit is looking for last-minute support from the people of his state to help him become the Voice of India!
Vinit has already become the talk of town and people are voting for him be it on phone, SMS or via the Internet.
A day before the SaReGaMaPa Challenge-2005 finals, a road show was organised to garner support for this Lucknow lad.
Vinit’s family members and friends have already put up posters across town and are distributing handbills in various localities. Vinit’s fans and supporters have also put up banners and hoardings in which they have appealed to people to vote for the ‘Topi wale Tendulkar’.
The grand finale on Friday, to be telecast live on Zee TV, will witness top Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta in special guest appearances along with a host of star guests. The show will also see other finalists performing along with Lucknow girl Twinkle Bajpai in the group song and duet.
Thursday, HT We caught up with the young lad. So how is Vinit coping up?
“Pressure is at its peak but there is no time to think about anything. The schedule is so tight that we are not able to get full sleep, get down to riyaz or even talk properly to anyone. Everything has been put on hold. It’s just shooting and practising songs for the final performance,” says Vinit.
“Myself and Debo bhaiyya are both busy practising the song prepared by our mentor. Himeshji has made a very good song for me and right now I am rehearsing it, as it will be sung for the first time that too in the finals. It’s a very challenging song and Himeshji has done lots of hard work like always specially for me so I have to prove myself,” he says.
And what about his love? “Believe me, it is there always with me but right now I have put every thing on hold and I am just concentrating on the finals.
Everyone is curious to know and maybe in the finals, everyone hear about it live from Himeshji, I have just sealed my lips,” says Vinit.
Before rushing for a recording he appealed to UPites: “I am trailing by 2,44,501 votes and I am delighted to know at last people have geared up. When they have supported me so much so just have a little more faith in me and if I am performing up to their expectations then help me out and let me conquer the summit. The present situation gives Debo bhaiyya a lead but I wish some miracle happens and a windfall of votes turns the balance in my favour.”
Lucknow Vikas Manch took out the road show on Thursday afternoon appealing for votes for Vinit. Volunteers of the Manch led by Achal Mehrotra on two-wheelers and four-wheelers started from the Globe Park and went to various localities like Aliganj, Indira Nagar, Gomti Nagar, Alambagh, Chowk and finally concluded their procession at Vinit’s resident in Tikait Rai Talab.
Talking about the success of the show, Aashish Kaul, senior vice president, Zee TV says, “Our endeavour has always been to produce efficient playback singers and not just poster boys.”
He further adds, “Though it is left to be seen who wins the title ultimately, as of now the fact that both Debojit, and Vinit are already singing for some prominent music directors, goes to prove the real worth of these contestants.”
A fan wrote to Vinit in a chat session, “Jeetenge hamare chhote nawab... Yeh hai hame poora vishwaas... Jisko kehte hain pyaar se Raja... Woh hai hamare Lucknow ka shehzada... Tumhara saath hamesha denge... Jeet tumhe dilate rahenge... Jai Mata Di — Let’s Rock!”
