Will you marry Spiderman?

I didn't react to Spiderman-2 like my friend Smita did. As if it's not queer enough that we sat in the midst of schoolkids to watch the film - Smita fell head over heels for Spidey.

Have you seen Spiderman-2? Did you like it? Well I did.

Not that I was really keen on the Doc Ock theme - but I ogled at Toby Maguire.

In that tattered malfunctioning Spidey costume - the guy looked just great.

What do you think?

But then that is that. Nothing more nothing less. At least I did not react to Spiderman-2 like my friend Smita did after watching the film. As if it's not queer enough that we sat in the midst of school kids to watch the chick flick- Smita went totally head over heels for Spidey and worse- jealous of Mary Jane!

Well I do know it girls - we could always do with a few good-looking larger than life male acquaintances - but can you imagine spending your life with the guy who has been doomed or blessed to save the world in the guise of an oversized insect?

God - the very thought runs a shiver down my spine. So when my well-past-teenage-friend gasped 'lucky Mary Jane!' I narrowed my eyes and quizzed her ruthlessly -

So Smita - given a chance...would you marry Spiderman?

You can guess what she said.

But would I?

Nah!

No way!

Now don't misunderstand me - how can I underestimate the virtues of doing-good? I am not out to judge Spidey or his vocation. But Smita's reaction makes my thoughts run deep.

Spiderman or Superman - girls will be girls.

Call them suckers for romance, seekers of spotlight or whatever else you want...but when it comes to the dame's heart- the appeal of the dangerous man dies hard!

And that, dear all, is the cause of an epidemic of heartbreaks.
