Sunni woman MP Taiseer Najeh Awad al-Mashhadani was kidnapped in the Iraqi capital on Saturday along with eight of her bodyguards, a political source said.

Mashhadani belonged to the National Concord Front, the largest Sunni Arab bloc in Iraq's 275-member Parliament.
"She was coming from Diyala to Baghdad when her convoy was stopped and she was abducted with her bodyguards at an intersection in the Shaab neighbourhood in north Baghdad," a security source said, referring to a restive province northeast of the capital.
Her abduction came after Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki launched a national reconciliation plan aimed at wooing members of the disenchanted former elite away from the protracted insurgency and back into the political process.
