World-class medical facilities for Ardh Kumbh-2007

The religious fare on the banks of Ganga from January to mid-February will witness devotees, seers and people from all over the world and the health department Allahabad has prepared an extensive plan to provide quality health services to them.
The budget for the Mega Plan was approved on Friday evening, during a meeting with the Secretary, UP Government and the officials of the Finance Department, at Lucknow.
Under the plan, many new emergency and health services will be introduced for the first time during Ardh Kumbh to provide speedy and round-the-clock medical facilities to the pilgrims and Kalpvasis. Besides, 120-bed main hospital on the Parade ground, a centralised Water Lab will be set up which will conduct OT test of drinking water in all the 14 sectors in the Mela area and ensure that the people get clean and germ-free drinking water. A Food Adulteration Check Unit will also be set up for the first time to monitor sale of food and other eatable items in the Mela.
The department has also decided to establish an Anti- Fly Unit in all the 14 sectors to make them mosquito and insect-free zone. It has also been decided to provide on-the-spot emergency services to people who have met an accident or suffer from serious medical condition, by forming seven mobile hospitals in the Mela area.
There will also be at least five River Ambulances to save people from drowning.
Also for the first time, a 30-bed Infectious Diseases Hospital will be established near Daraganj, to closely monitor the diarrhoea, gastro-enteritis and other infectious diseases patients. A 30-bed hospital will be set up in the police camp and 20-bed mini-hospital in each of the 14 sectors. To manage these hospitals, a total 150 specialists and doctors and over 1,000 para medical staff including staff nurse, pharmacist and lab technicians, will remain deputed in these hospitals.
A total of 25,000 toilets for Kalpvasis and 50,000 trench pattern toilets for the floating devotees will be constructed in the Mela area.
There will also be 4000 urinals for male and female. A proposal has also been sent for the deputation of 5,707 safai karamcharis to take care of sanitation in the Mela area.
"All the hospitals will have emergency and life saving equipment including drugs to deal with even serious cardiac patients. About 60 per cent doctors will come from other districts of UP to manage the services," said Dr Murari Verma, Officer on Special Duty (Health) Ardh Kumbh.
Dr Verma said the department made a proposal of Rs 14.75 crore for the Mela.
However, the Government approved Rs 12 crore during the meeting at Lucknow, on Friday. "Many services will be introduced for the first time to ensure 24-hour health facilities to the people," he added.
