Malaysian born star of Memoirs of a Geisha Michelle Yeoh has reacted to criticism regarding her casting in a Japanese role, saying all that matters is talent.

According to Internet Movie Database, Yeoh is surprised by critics who have questioned the decision to use Chinese and Malaysian stars in the movie.

She says: "The actors were chosen because of their suitability to the characters. It is the same as an English actor playing a German or an American. So it seems strange to me when you say, 'Why are you playing Japanese?' Why? Because I am an actor."
