Over 20 Yoga centres in the city are crowded with people. Talking to HT, Madan Mohan Bhartia, a yoga instructor says, “Yes, more and more youths, from 16 to 35 years, are coming to me to learn yoga to stay fit. They also want to overcome tension arising out of exams and competitions through yoga.”

Speaking in the same vein, another yoga teacher Manoj Tripathi, says, “The old people are also becoming health conscious. So, the old people are also coming to me to learn yoga.”

“The trend of going to gymnasium is slowly becoming a thing of the past because of side effects. Yoga, which does not have any side-effects, is becoming very popular,” he says.

Another Yoga teacher, Naval Mehrotra, says, “Students are turning towards yoga as they know yoga can help them reduce their stress.

Students who practise yoga have performed better in various competitions. Besides, yoga helps them increase their concentration.”

Deepti, a student, feels that practising yoga is more helpful than going to any gymnasium.

“Doing workouts helps us improve our physical condition. But yoga helps us improve our physical and mental health,” she says.

Other students, Richa and Neha, feel they can remain physically and mentally fit by doing yogic exercises.

Anurag feels no status symbol is associated with yoga. “We learn it to improve our physical and mental ability,” he adds.

“I have been learning yoga for over a month. It has helped me increase my ability to concentrate, and I am learning my lessons faster than before.”
