A "teenaged" boy was killed when security forces opened fire to disperse stone-throwing protesters during a demonstration in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday.

Irshad Ahmed Parray was rushed to a hospital in Srinagar, where doctors declared him brought dead.

There were conflicting reports about the boy's age, with some claiming he was just 10. But the police said he was a teenager and part of the mob that attacked the police station.

"A large mob hurled stones at the Sherbagh police post in Anantnag town. The police used teargas shells to disperse the protesters and later used rubber bullets. The boy sustained injuries during the incident and died later," said Anantnag SP Bashir Khan. A police constable was also injured, he said.
