135 urban bodies going to polls in first phase of civic elections in MP

As many as 135 civic bodies are going to polls in the first phase on Friday. While 60 candidates are in fray for the posts of mayor, 603 are contesting for the posts of chairmen in municipal councils.

Fate of more than 10000 candidates would be sealed in electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the first phase of urban bodies elections polling for which will be held from 7 am to 5 pm on Friday.

As per an official release, the polling will be held at 5573 booths in 2534 wards. The total number of voters in this phase is 4403785 including 2322255 males, 2081319 females and 211 others.

Of the candidates 60 are in fray for the posts of mayor, 603 for the posts of chairmen and 9662 for corporators seats in 135 urban bodies.

These urban bodies include 9 municipal corporations, 26 nagar palikas and 100 nagar parishads.

As per the release, polling for the second phase elections will be held on December 2. Counting of votes of the first phase will be held on December 4 and second phase on December 7.
