An ancient idol of Lord Vishnu and Sheshnag has been stolen from a temple in Bhilwara district.

The idol was found missing on Sunday morning when the gate of the ancient temple, situated in Dhandhola village under Jahajpur block, was opened by the priest. However, the locals gathered outside the temple and staged a six-hour long dharna to protest against the temple administration.

According to police, the idol’s legs were separated from the upper torso, which was stolen on Sunday night. following which local priest Kishan Lal Sharma filed an FIR at Jahajpur police station.

The same idol was stolen in the year 2000 and was recovered 11 months later, when the police arrested two local Kanjar thieves in connection with the robbery.

On September 9, an ancient idol of lord Krishna was also stolen from a temple in Shahpura town. According to Shahpura police, the over 300-year-old idol was selectively picked by the thieves even as other idols and gold and silver ornaments remained untouched.
