A three-year-old boy was abducted, murdered and then thrown into a well by a relative in Baran district’s Kawai region.
Police said that a team from the Kawai police station was on night patrol in the region on Wednesday when a man, Shubraj Meghwal (35), approached them at midnight and said that his three-year-old son, Rohit Meghwal (3), was missing.
Later, the police went to the Salpur village, where the boy’s body was found floating in a well, said station house officer (SHO), Kawai police station, Dalbeer Singh Foujdar.
A postmortem has been conducted on Thursday through a medical board and the body has been handed over to the family members, he said.
The accused— who is Shubraj’s brother-in-law — reportedly had a spat with his wife and she then returned to her parents’ home a few days ago.
The police said that the accused abducted the boy when he was sleeping with his father in the house in Salpur village on Wednesday night and killed him.
The accused lives in Kota and has been missing since the murder, Foujdar said.
“We have lodged a FIR regarding the abduction and murder and a search is on for the accused,” he said.
When asked about the motive, Foujdar said that the murder appears to have been committed following strained relations between the families of the deceased and the accused.
