Samiti president Banwari Lal Gothwal, after meeting the district’s top cop, told reporters that Mandhan SHO Ravindra Kaviya cuts hair of Dalit youth sporting long hair besides shaving their moustache.

Gothwal alleged that four Dalit youth approached them on September 28 that the SHO ordered them to cut their hair, saying they can’t have Yo Yo Honey Singh-style hair.

Gothwal said moustache of one of the youth was also cut because he did like Dalits to have moustache like him.

Rohit, a B.Ed student, alleged that he was stopped by the SHO on September 19 when he was returning to his house with his friend Deewan on a bike.

Rohit said the SHO got angry seeing Deewan’s moustache, which was later cut in the police station. He said he was also beaten in the police station and his hair cut.

Jaipal, another B.Ed student, alleged that his hair was cut in the police station on September 24.

Hairdresser Saif Ali said he was asked not to style Dalit youth’s hair after Yo Yo Honey Singh or any other modern styles. He said he has not opened his shop for the past one month after being threatened by the police.

SHO Kaviya, however, dismissed the allegation as a “baseless and unfounded”.

He told HT that he was taking hard steps against anti-social elements in the area so they may be behind this conspiracy.
