The Smart City administration in Jaipur is considering using ‘fire robots’ — small unmanned vehicles — for fighting flames in constricted spaces. Hosepipes from fire tenders can be attached to these vehicles to tend to situations where there are high chances of explosion or building collapse.
“I attended the fire day celebrations of Gujarat Fire Services in Ahmedabad on April 15 and 16. They displayed these unmanned vehicles that use high pressure mist technology. We are considering them for the fire-fighting mechanism to be installed at Purohit ji ka Katla,” Deputy commissioner, fire department, Shipra Sharma, said.
The robots were displayed at Smart City — not be confused with Centre’s mart city project — on Thursday.
“Maybe the Smart City will let such unmanned vehicles function for the narrow bylanes of the walled city,” she added. A mock drill was also undertaken at Purohit ji ka Katla recently, Sharma said.
“We are running a fire awareness drive this whole month where we are trying to see how we can bring in better technologies to battle fire,” Sharma said.
A fire awareness programme was organised at Malviya Nagar’s Gaurav Tower on Saturday. The programme included mock drills by the fire department with fire brigade vehicles and a demonstration by Fire and Security Association of India.
