The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given approval for establishment of five government medical colleges in Rajasthan, revealed chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday.

She was in Kota to attend the foundation laying ceremony of the 400-crore Bharat Vikas Institute of Medical Sciences and Cancer Hospital (BVIMSCH) of Bharat Vikas Parishad.

Raje said it is a matter of “great” pleasure that the MCI has accorded its nod to five of the eight proposed government medical colleges in Rajasthan announced in the previous budget. The new medical colleges will be set up in Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Churu, Dungarpur and Pali districts, she added. She said that a medical college each in Barmer and Sikar districts would also be constructed soon, whereas the foundation laying of the Government Medical College in Dholpur was done recently.

Raje said that there are eight major medical colleges each in the public and private sectors in Rajasthan, and the Bharat Vikas Parishad’s proposed BVIMSCH would further increase the tally of such medical colleges in the state. BVIMSCH will provide advanced health facilities to the patients of Rajasthan and border districts of Madhya Pradesh, she added.

“Chief Minister Bhamashah Swastha Beema Yojana (CMBSBY) of Rajasthan government has also helped people of the state to avail free treatment of around 1,100 health ailments at 61 private hospitals and all government scheme of the state with an expenditure of around 1,300 crore, which is a big milestone in the direction of ensuring health facilities to the people of the state,” she said, adding that 500 crore worth of free drugs are also being provided to the state people. Around 1 lakh people have been benefitted under the CMBSBY scheme in Kota division alone, on which 60 crore have been spent so far, she further added.

“No state can progress without ensuring health and educational facilities to its citizen,” she said.

Raje said 10,000 crore have already been spent on the development projects in Kota, which would touch a figure of 12,000 by the year-end.

Speaking on the occasion, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarkaryavah Bhaiyyaji Joshi praised social organisations for “great work in the field of education and health in the country” and called upon the people to contribute more for the society.

Representatives of various social and charity organisations announced donation for the BVPIMSCH in Kota on the occasion. Bharat Vikas Parishad chairman Shyam Sharma was among others present.
