A 12-year-old girl was allegedly married off to a man, double her age, by her parents for a sack of wheat and Rs 80,000.
The victim was allegedly raped by the man, a resient of Badda Kheda village under Badliyas panchayat around 35 kms from Bhilwara, several times before she managed to escape from his clutches on Thursday, police said on Saturday.
An FIR has been filed against the victim’s father, mother, husband and 16-year-old brother under Indian Penal Code section 370 and other relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO) and Human Trafficking Act at the Mahila police station.
The victim told police that she was married to two persons earlier, but not sent to their houses as they did not pay enough money for the bride. She said she was just 11 when she was married the second time to a resident of Guwardi village. Her family had received some gold ornaments from the groom’s family, but wanted more, she alleged. She could not provide details of her first marriage.
The girl has accused her brother, a part-time worker at an eating joint, of beating her and forcing her into marrying thrice.
The girl has now approached the superintendent of police (SP) with the help of the child welfare committee (CWC) and urged him to save her. “I do not want to live with my parents or in-laws. I will (rather) go to (the) women shelter home in Ajmer,” she has pleaded.
ASP Anand Sharma told HT, that a case had been lodged against four people, however, no arrests were made so far. He said the victim’s parents have denied the charges of selling their daughter. “They have said that the girl was married and money was taken as per a custom.” Victim’s father is suffering from tuberculosis and her mother is a beggar.
