A second-year college student and a member of Trinamool Congress' students wing, Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, allegedly threatened to rape and murder two teachers after they asked him to leave a classroom in West Bengal's Malda district.
This comes barely a week after the CID found Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Tapas Pal guilty of threatening CPI(M) supporters of Nadia villages with rape last year.
Tajamul Haque, a student of Samsi College, threatened to rape the two teachers when they spotted him chatting with a few other boys in a room when university exams were being held in the college on Wednesday.
When the teachers told the students that they did not have any business in the college when exams were going on and asked them to leave, Haque threatened to rape them and even toss them from the rooftop.
Haque is the cultural affairs secretary of the college.
The teachers complained to the college in charge, Manoj Bhoj, about the incident on Wednesday. Bhoj then approached the Chanchal police station to lodge the complaint.
"We have received the complaint that alleges the student threatened to rape the teachers. We are investigating," said district police super Prasun Banerjee.
Trinamool MLA from Englishbazar and food processing minister in Mamata Banerjee's cabinet, Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury, said the police must probe the matter.
"We won't stand beside such elements at all. The police are free to investigate and prosecute the accused," said Chowdhury.
Last year Tapas Pal, Trinamool MP from Krishnagar, kicked up a row when he threatened CPI(M) supporters with rape and murder at four villages in Nadia.
"If any CPI(M) man is present here, listen to me. If you ever touch any Trinamool worker or their families, you have to pay. I will shoot you guys if a Trinamool worker is ever attacked. I will let loose my boys in your homes and they will commit rape," the MP had said in a public meeting, the clips of which went viral on the net.
The CID slapped sections 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Pal. While section 506 deals with criminal intimidation, section 509 deals with words, gesture or act that intend to insult the modesty of a woman.
The maximum punishment prescribed in section 506 is 7 years imprisonment and a fine and that for section 509 is 7-year imprisonment with a fine.
Pal was forgiven by the party after he issued a letter seeking forgiveness for his words.
