The CBI on Monday failed to meet the deadline to submit before the Calcutta High Court its final report on the investigation into the Rizwanur Rahman death case and the police firing in Nandigram on March 14.
The agency sought more time to complete its probe.
Justice Soumitra Pal accepted the CBI’s plea in the Rizwanur case and directed it to file its report on January 8.
The judge also refused to extend the deadline for filing of affidavits by Rizwanur's father-in-law Ashok Todi and five police officials in response to the writ petition filed by Rizwanur's mother Kishwar Jahan and brother Rukbanur, seeking a CBI investigation into Rizwanur's death.
The judge, however, said that their request might be considered at the next date.
In the March 14 Nandigram police firing case, the CBI, however, submitted a status report of the investigation through its advocate Ranjan Roy and sought four more months to submit its final report.
