Guwahati Molestation: 13 get bail

13 people accused of molesting a girl outside a bar in Guwahati on 9 July have been granted bail.

Thirteen people, accused of molesting a girl outside a bar in Guwahati on July 9, have been granted bail by the Kamrup chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday.

The incident was captured on camera that led to a nationwide furore.

The accused persons included Nabajyoti Baruah, Jitumoni Deka, Nabajit Deka, Dipak Deb, Puspendra Das, Dhanraj Basfor, Rubul Ali, Hafizuddin, Sikandar Basfor, Diganta Basumatary, Debo Das, Rupkanta Kalita and Ghanashyam Malik.

The prime accused Amarjyoti Kalita’s bail application was pending before the Guwahati High Court and is scheduled to come up for hearing on Thursday. A journalist of a local television channel Gaurab Jyoti Neog, an accused in the case, was granted bail by the HC on August 13. The CJM ordered that the trial of the case would proceed on a day-to-day basis from September 18.
