The Indian Statistical Institute at Baranagar in adjoining North 24 Parganas today received an email threatening to blow it up after the Lok Sabha elections.
Though the state goes to the second phase of polls on Thursday, the institute is in Baranagar which falls under the Dum Dum parliamentary constituency where elections will be held in the third and last phase in the state on May 13.
"The email is not very clear about the date, but we are not taking chances and are taking every step to keep this premiere institute safe and secure," Inspector General of Police (Special Operations Group), CID, Siddhinath Gupta said, adding that a bomb disposal team was rushed to the institute.
He said the email was sent to senior officials including the director of the institute saying that bombs had been planted on the premises, which would go off on or a day after the election.
