Three persons, including a woman who were allegedly involved in running a kidney racket, have been arrested from the outskirts of the city, police said on Friday.
All the three accused, identified as Mithun Chakraborty, Hridoy Dubey and Chandana Mukherjee, were arrested from different areas in North and South 24 Parganas last night, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department), Jawed Shamim said.
The accused would approach people promising to offer jobs and then propose them to give kidney in return for money, he said adding, the racket has been running for the last two years.
"Mukherjee is supposedly one of the kingpins of the racket. We have seized a fake MSc certificate and forged medical documents from her house at Thakurpukur in South 24 Parganas," Shamim said.
The racket came to light when Hridoy and Mithun took a man Sumon Rudra to a private nursing home for 'medical tests' which aroused his suspicion.
Hridoy and Mithun fled when Sumon raised an alarm.
"They used to conduct primary tests on victim to ensure that the person was fit for removal of organs before final surgery," Shamim said.
