BJP on Saturday tried to woo Mamata Banerjee back to the NDA fold, saying the party respects the Trinamool Congress (TC) leader and is hopeful of her return.

"We (BJP) respect Mamataji ... We are hopeful that she will return to NDA," BJP leader Smriti Irani said in response to queries by reporters at the NSC Bose International airport whether the NDA would take back Banerjee after the polls.

TC had severed its alliance with the NDA and is in poll agreement with the Congress to take on the ruling CPI-M in West Bengal in the current elections.

Irani is here to canvass for her party candidates for the fifth and final phase of polls on Wednesday.
