In Chandni Chowk, Goyal says GST helped put system in order

Union minister for Railways, Piyush Goyal, on Thursday addressed a gathering at National Club in Chandni Chowk, where he asked people not to fall for Congress’s ‘One Tax’ policy.
Goyal, who arrived an hour late to address the ‘Vyapari Sammelan’ (traders’ conference), was greeted by a huge garland that covered at least ten people on the makeshift stage.
Later, addressing the gathering, Goyal said that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) procedure had a number of heads working on it, because of which some issues are still left to be dealt with.
“But overall, it [the GST regime] has helped put the system in order,” Goyal said.
“I totally believe that the tax rate of some businesses, such as auto spare parts must be reduced. It will be proposed in the GST council soon,” Goyal, who had come to support Union environment minister and BJP’s Chandni Chowk candidate for Lok Sabha elections, Harsh Vardhan, assured traders.
Chandni Chowk constituency houses the city’s biggest wholesale markets and is largely represented by the trader community.
Goyal further talked about the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government, asking the trader community not to fall in the Congress’s trap of ‘One Tax’.
“I urge all of you to look at the positive changes of policies, such as the GST, which has made the sector more organised than fall into the trap of ‘One Tax’ being propagated by the Congress. They know that they are going to get only a handful of seats and so mentioning populist agendas such as these will be of no consequence to them,” said Goyal.
The Union minister rounded off his speech by asking traders to join the ‘Mai bhi Chowkidar’ cammpaign launched by the party and vote for it in large numbers on May 12.
