Lok Sabha Elections 2019: It’s time for politicians to create a bond with voters
Many Muslim leaders of Congress party will play Holi with the people to strengthen the secular image of the party and will join party workers in distributing ‘gulal’ and sharing ‘gujhiya’ with people.
With Holi falling days after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, local traders are making hay as bulk orders for ‘gujhiya’, ‘papad’ and ‘gulal’ are pouring in from politicians and prospective candidates.
The timing of elections is a blessing in disguise for politicians who are out to grab every opportunity to create bond with voters.
As Congress general secretary (east UP) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra began her party’s election campaign from Prayagraj on Monday, the Congress leaders are going all out to woo the voters.
Many Muslim leaders of Congress party will play Holi with the people to strengthen the secular image of the party and will join party workers in distributing ‘gulal’ and sharing ‘gujhiya’ with people.
UP Congress spokesman said, “We have placed orders for four quintals of ‘gujhiya’ with a shop in Loknath area. This place is known for popular local delicacies. A trader in Loknath area has also been asked to deliver about hundred kilograms of ‘aloo papad’ for the same purpose. We will also purchase 2 kg of gulal.”
Prayagraj district Congress spokesman Parvez Siddiqui said he would join the party workers in celebrating Holi with the people in such a way that it did not violate the election code of conduct.
Mayor Abhilasha Gupta, who is also in the race for ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said she and her husband Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, a UP minister, were planning to celebrate Holi with slum children and underprivileged people.
“We want to bring smiles on the faces of children and deprived people this Holi. This time my children will also join us in these activities. We will see that all our programmes are in consonance with the code of conduct. After the programme is finalised, we will order gujhiya and other delicacies accordingly,” she said.
SP candidate from MP Shyama Charan Gupta, who used to celebrate Holi festival in Prayagraj as a BJP leader, said he was planning to celebrate the festival with the residents of Banda.
He has recently joined the Samajwadi Party and is contesting the election from Banda.
District spokesperson of Samajwadi Party Dan Bahadur Singh Madhur said though many SP-BSP alliance candidates had lost hope of getting the party ticket, they had plans to meet the voters this Holi.
“Holi Milan programmes will not be organised as the election code of conduct is in place. We will definitely buy ‘gulal’, sprinklers and other merchandise to celebrate Holi with the people,” he added.
