Seventy-two flying squads and 21 video-monitoring teams will keep an eye on Maharashtra’s Thane district, which will vote in the Lok Sabha elections on April 29, Thane district collector Rajesh Narvekar said on Monday.
The district, which includes Thane, Bhiwandi and Kalyan Lok Sabha constituencies, has 60 lakh voters, with 340 belonging to the third gender and 3,883 differently-abled. The district will have 6,488 polling centres and some may require auxiliary centres too. “Political parties have been asked to be vigilant. Around 62,000 officials will be on election duty,” said Narvekar.
A team of 718 police officers and 8,360 personnel will be deployed on the polling day. A mobile app, C-Vigil, has been launched to assist with election-related information and help file complaints against those seen flouting the model code of conduct.
“Special provisions will be made for the differently abled, providing support such as vehicles and wheelchairs. Facilities such as drinking water and others will be provided at every polling centre,” said Narvekar.
