Apologise to Brahmins first: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit out at the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP’s) Brahmin meet in the state capital on Sunday.
BJP spokesman Manoj Mishra alleged that since the Brahmins virtually boycotted the BSP show, the BSP workers were made to sit wearing yellow clothes in a bid to help the BSP leadership save face.
He said unlike the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) and the opposition BSP, both of whom were “busy dividing people into communities”, the BJP never held any caste rallies.
Mishra targeted BSP leader Mayawati saying that her support to the reservation-inpromotion proved her love for Brahmin was nothing more than a political ploy.
“Why else would you hold an exclusive Brahmin meet in the first place? What’s more, despite the presence of top BSP leaders in the rally, more party workers than Brahmins were seen,” Mishra said.
He claimed that the Brahmins in UP had woken up to the fact that both the ruling Samajwadi Party as well as the main opposition Bahujan Samaj Party had used them for political gains without doing anything for them.
The BJP spokesman said had the BSP leadership actually wanted to do something for the Brahmins, it should have first apologized to the community for its derogatory slogan it had coined against them once.
“The same party now wants the Brahmins to side with it,” Mishra said.
Earlier, on Saturday, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) had said the Brahmins were subjected to atrocities and humiliation under the Mayawati regime.
