An MA IV semester student was allegedly beaten up by her male classmate in the department of political science, Banaras Hindu University on Monday.
The girl lodged a complaint with the BHU administration, alleging that Shivanand Singh Parmar had harassed and attacked her in the past as well, besides stalking her. She said that on Monday Parmar beat her up without any provocation.
Chief proctor prof Royana Singh said, “A girl student of MA fourth semester alleged that Parmar beat her up. We have forwarded her complaint to police for further action.”
Station officer Lanka police station Sanjiv Mishra said “a case under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC has been registered against Parmar following a complaint by the girl student.”
Further investigation in the matter is on, he said.
The chief proctor said the girl alleged that Parmar had attacked her in the past too and used abusive language against her a few times, but she didn’t complain then thinking that he would mend his ways.
“The girl claimed that she had been tolerating his (accused’s) indecent behaviour since the first semester. The complainant’s female classmates backed her claim,” Singh said adding that the girls demanded strict action against the accused.
Singh also said that Parmar, when questioned, denied the allegation and claimed that the complainant beat him up.
