The police on Monday arrested two men, who allegedly killed a mother of four when she resisted rape and then had intercourse with her body. The incident took place in the CB Ganj area of Bareilly on October 3 and the body was abandoned in a paddy field there that day.

Superintendent of police, Bareilly, Rohit Singh Sajwan said: “We arrested one Rinku (20) and Sarju (19) from their house at Sarania village in the morning today (Monday).”

“We have also recovered the woman’s mobile phone from their possession,” he added.

The police claimed the suspects told them they “attacked the woman with a wooden stick and had intercourse as she fell unconscious and died.” The police recovered the blood smeared eucalyptus stick which was used in the attack.

The accused abandoned the body in the field and returned home.

They were reportedly planning to flee the district but the police tracked them down.

“The (woman’s) phone was put on mobile surveillance which helped us track down the accused,” the officer said.

In the initial FIR lodged on October 3, police charged the attackers under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (murder). The police then asked for a review of the medical report to add charges against the accused.

The police will produce the suspects in court on Tuesday.
