Demonetisation has pushed the country backwards, says Akhilesh

“Demonetisation has done no good to the economy. It has pushed the country backwards,” Akhilesh said while re-launching a scheme to grant subsidy to the poor for marriage of up to two girls in a family.
“Demonetisation is being linked to patriotism. It is causing problem to all,” he said.
Akhilesh had made a similar statement at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi last Friday.

But the BJP believes people will rather vote on issues like corruption and law and order and throw Akhilesh out in the coming assembly polls.
At the function to launch the subsidy scheme at his residence in Lucknow on Monday, Akhilesh said the central government had withdrawn Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 bank notes and introduced currency of Rs 2,000 denomination which would make hoarding of black money easier.
“The central government did not care for quality while printing new Rs 2,000 notes. The new notes are losing colour due to poor quality,” he said.
He also took a swipe at BSP chief Mayawati for construction of memorials during her stint as chief minister. Akhilesh said neither the BSP nor the BJP worked for the people’s welfare.
The CM said people should support SP to benefits from government schemes.
The SP government had discontinued the subsidy scheme for marriage of girls two years ago. At the re-launch of the scheme, Akhilesh also announced increasing the subsidy from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.
The government has earmarked Rs 400 crore for the scheme that would benefit four lakh families. Under the scheme, families with an annual income of Rs 56,460 in cities and Rs 46,080 in rural areas are eligible for subsidy.
