Eight die as truck hits van, bike in Bareilly

Eight people, including a six-month-old infant, were killed and four injured when a truck collided with an Omni van and a two-wheeler in Bhuta area of Bareilly district on Wednesday evening, the police said.

Police said the speeding truck hit the van and the bike near Kailash Bridge under Bhuta police station limits of the district. There were more than 12 people travelling in the van and the motorcycle.

The deceased were identified as Shama, 22, Seeva, 28, her six-month-old son Husain, Rahmat, 40, her daughter Isma 10, Azmat, 42, Omni driver Yunus, 25, and the pillion rider Richa 27.

Five of them died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries in hospital. Four others are admitted to a private hospital in Bareilly and are under observation.

Meanwhile, DM Virendra Kumar Singh and SSP Shailesh Pandey visited the spot as well as the hospital. A case of rash driving and culpable homicide has been registered against the truck driver in Bhuta police station.
