Muslim clerics and organisations have strongly criticised Gujarat CM Narendra Modi's fast, terming it a political drama.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Maulana Kalbe Jawad on Saturday announced he would observe a one-day fast on September 23 to pray for the political demise of Modi. The Shia cleric also appealed to the Hindu community to fast with him.

"Modi has misjudged the SC verdict. He is misguiding people. Muslims would never forgive him irrespective of his acts of remorse, if any," said Jawad in Lucknow.

All India United Muslim Morcha president MA Siddiqui said Modi's fast will not improve his image of a hardline leader.

“This is nothing more than a political drama as he will never succeed in projecting himself as candidate for PM," said Siddiqui.
