“Soon,” said Gandhi when asked by mediapersons when he would be elevated to a higher position in the party or join the UPA government. Asked whether his new role would be in the party organisation or the government the MP remained tightlipped.

Gandhi’s remark before winding up his visit to Amethi, his Lok Sabha constituency, came amid speculation about his likely role in the party or government and PM Manmohan Singh’s open invitation to him to join the Union ministry.

Earlier, he addressed a meeting of party workers at Jamo in Amethi, about 100 km from Lucknow. He said there would soon be changes to strengthen the party in Amethi but warned party workers against groupism.
