UP Homeguards to be equipped with prohibited weapon

In keeping with the modernisation plan of the Homeguards, Uttar Pradesh cabinet today decided to equip the department's officials with prohibited nine bore pistols.

In keeping with the modernisation plan of the Homeguards, Uttar Pradesh cabinet today decided to equip the department's officials with prohibited nine bore pistols.

The cabinet meeting presided over by the Chief Minister Mayawati in Lucknow gave its nod for the purchase of the prohibited pistols for 106 officials of the Homeguards keeping in mind the important role played by the department in assisting the police force in maintaining law and order in the face of challenge posed by terrorism, an official release said.

These pistols would be provided to four deputy commandant generals, 12 divisional commandants , 58 district commandants, 12 commandants of district training centres and 20 inspectors, the release added.
