Woman’s body parts found stuffed in bag, torso missing

Walkers saw a middle-aged man with the bag; cops trying to identify victim and killer

Body parts of an unidentified woman, aged between 35 and 40 years, were found stuffed in a luggage bag on the pavement opposite the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University here on Saturday morning, said police. Her head, hands and legs were packed in three separate polythene bags but the torso was missing, they said.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Lucknow, Kalanidhi Naithani said that multiple teams were trying to find the missing torso and all police stations of the state capital and the adjoining districts had been alerted in this regard. “Efforts are on to ascertain the woman’s identity,” he said.

The pavement opposite the RML Law University falls under the Krishna Nagar police station where an FIR of murder has been registered. “We have registered a murder case, as the circumstances clearly suggest that the woman was killed and her body was chopped off for disposal,” said Naithani.

The SSP said that some morning walkers saw the maroon coloured bag placed on an iron bench and informed the police. “Some also said that they had seen a middle aged man sitting on the bench along with the bag. He later disappeared, leaving the bag there. The police have got some clue about the man through the footage obtained from CCTV cameras installed at the university’s entrance. The man was seen walking towards the Lucknow- Kanpur road,” said Naithani.

Another official privy to the investigation said that a dog squad and a forensic team were called in to examine the spot from where the bag was recovered. “The dog squad sniffed along for around 600 metres and stopped in front of a house. The occupants of the house have been questioned about the incident,” he said.

The official said that torn pieces of a handwritten note on a white sheet were found at some distance from the spot and police were trying to put together the pieces. “The letter was written with a red ink pen,” he said.
