Another jewellery shop was targeted by a gang of women thieves in Lucknow, this time in Indira Nagar area on Sunday afternoon, said police.

Two saree clad women entered the shop along with a male associate and stole a gold chain worth 15,000 after posing at customers.

The incident occurred at Panchmukhi Jewellers on Picnic Spot road in Faridi Nagar locality of Indira Nagar, said cops who registered an FIR at Indira Nagar police station.

The owner Vikas Kashyap said his brother Rahul was alone at the shop around 12.45 pm. According to him, two women demanded some specific designs in gold chains. But the duo stole one of the gold chains placed on the counter when Rahul was busy attending a phone call. They left the shop saying that they would return soon in some time, he added.

Kashyap realised that the gold chain was missing when he reached the shop after some time and took stock of jewellery. The two women were seen picking the gold chain and hiding it in their clothes before leaving the shop when footages of CCTV cams in the shop were scanned, he added. On Friday, four burqa-clad women stole around 500 grams gold jewellery worth 15 lakh from a shop M Umar Jewellers, owned by one Saeed Ahmad, in Phoolwali Gali, in Chowk.

Vinod Maheshwari, officer bearers of Lucknow Jewellers’ Association, said it was suspected that the same women were behind another theft at a jewellery shop in Vikas Nagar a few weeks ago. He said the video footage and photographs of the two women had been circulated among jewellers to avert such incidents.
