The sweltering summer can make bad hair days a painful truth in your life. The harsh UV rays not only damage your skin but hair as well. Even the pollutants add to the skin, scalp and hair woes and lead to problems such as itchiness, dandruff, allergies and hair fall. Don’t fret, these hair masks that you can easily make at home, soothe your scalp and give your hair the nutrition it needs. From fruits such as banana and strawberries to fresh neem leaves, these kitchen shelf remedies will give you lustrous hair.

Aloe Vera hair mask
Aloe vera is rich in amino acids, vitamin A, B, C, F and essential enzymes. Soak aloe vera for 30 minutes, and then take out the gel from it. Add neem and grind together to make a thick paste. Apply on scalp and hair. Leave it for half an hour and then shampoo your hair.
Strawberry hair pack
This pack helps in protecting scalp cell membranes and is filled with Vitamin C and antioxidants. Take crushed strawberries, mix them with yogurt and apply on scalp and hair. Wash off after an hour with shampoo and cold water.
Coconut pulp and water mask
Coconut water or mashed pulp is an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and potassium that help in keeping scalp and hair nourished and healthy, and strengthen hair follicles. Hydrating properties of coconut keeps the hair conditioned, hydrates the hair and also protects hair breakage. Apply mashed pulp of green coconut directly on the scalp and hair, keep it for 40 minutes and wash off with shampoo. You can also use green coconut water mixed with egg white as a hair mask.
Banana and avocado hair mask
Prepare a smooth paste by adding ripe banana, avocado pulp, honey and mint leaves. Apply this mixture on your scalp and hair for 30 – 45 minutes and wash-off to get smoother hair. Banana and honey are natural moisturisers. The Vitamin A of avocado will nourish your hair and help prevent hair fall, and will also boost hair growth. Mint leaves not just refresh your scalp, they also protect it from infections.
Amla hair pack
It has Vitamin C, which prevents hair loss, dandruff, dryness and rejuvenates both hair and scalp. Boil fresh or dry amla in water, grind it, and mix yogurt to make a thick paste of it. Apply on the scalp for 20-30 minutes. For better results, apply this three days in a week to reduce hair fall.
Hibiscus flower pack
It protects hair fall by strengthening the hair roots. Soak hibiscus flower in water overnight, grind it to a powder, and mix yogurt with it. Apply on scalp and hair, and wash off once the mixture dries.
Neem hair pack
Neem is an antiseptic, and it protects your hair from infections. For the pack, prepare a powder of dried neem leaves by grinding them. Add egg and 2 tbsp olive oil to it. The protein content from the egg will strengthen the hair roots and tips. Apply this on your hair and let it be for a while. After it dries, wash to reveal conditioned, and shiny hair.
