The 50th full-length animated feature from Walt Disney Pictures is an update of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale about the adventures of princess Rapunzel.
Combining captivating characters, luminous visuals and a tuneful Alan Menken-composed score, Tangled evokes the vintage classics — Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio — from the House of Mouse. Even the 3D effects are striking.
The long flaxen-haired heroine (dubbed by popstar Moore) gets a chance to finally escape from the tower that’s served as a prison for most of her life when a bandit (Levi, generating empathy) accidentally stumbles upon her hideaway.
The mismatched teen-duo subsequently sneaks off on madcap escapades.
Co-directors Greno and Howard have assembled an ace vocal cast to bring the supporting characters to life. Broadway stalwart Donna Murphy brings down the house with her rendition of Rapunzel’s cruel captor. Unfortunately, the chuckle-some animals, including a bad-tempered horse, are not voiced.
A fun fantasy, Tangled is likely to appeal to audiences of all ages.
