47-year-old man rapes 4-year-old kin in Mumbai, arrested

The victim has been admitted to KEM hospital in Mumbai for treatment, but will be discharged soon, the police said.

A 47-year-old man has been recently arrested in central Mumbai for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl who is his distant relative, the police have said.

The matter came to light when the victim experienced pain while urinating, and informed her mother about the incident. The victim has been admitted to KEM hospital for treatment, but will be discharged soon, the police said.

According to the local police, the incident took place around 10pm on Saturday night in a chawl in central Mumbai.

The man does odd jobs and his family, including his wife and two sons, live in his village. He stays alone in Mumbai. The girl was known to him, and would often play with him. He lured her to his room and raped her there.

After the matter came to light, the accused was thrashed by the girl’s relatives, and then handed over to the local police.

A FIR has been registered under section 376 (rape) and 4 (penetrative sexual assault) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault) and 10 (aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused is remanded in police custody till July 28.
