Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday again pitched for Mumbai’s nightlife claiming that it will be in the interest of society and the city.

Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling partner of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and at the Centre, has always opposed to the concept.

Aditya, while speaking at India Nightlife Convention and Awards (INCA) 2016 organised by Kickstart Entertainment and the National Restaurant Association of India at a city hotel on Sunday, said that the hardworking masses in the city do not have a place to go to after working hours that sometimes extend to midnight. “Moreover, they don’t even have restaurants to have dinner in while working in shifts, he added. Aaditya also said he hoped that a single window licensing system for the tourism industry would soon become a reality.

Highlighting the concept of special nightlife entertainment zones in non-residential areas, Aaditya said the financial capital of India needed to be established as a tourism hub that would also help in generating revenue, employment and will pave the way to a safer city with malls, theatres, food establishments, chemists, and convenience stores open through the night.

“I am not including pubs and bars in the list,” the Yuva Sena leader said. “I understand the logic that something that is legal in the day becomes illegal after midnight,” he added.

Aaditya has been pushing the concept for more than three years now but has failed to get it implemented because of opposition from its own ally — the BJP.

Maintaining the party’s stand, BJP legislator from Mumbadevi constituency, Raj Purohit, said, “Nightlife will also allow bars to remain open for the night. People will drink the whole night and may disturb the peace. Nightlife is against our culture .”
