Actor-singer arrested in rape case files bail plea
He claimed that he had met the complainant “through a dating application meant mainly for hook-ups and dating” and that she had “seduced him.”
Actor-singer Karan Oberoi, arrested on charges of rape and extortion, on Friday filed a bail plea in the Dindoshi sessions court, claiming he had met the complainant “through a dating application meant mainly for hook-ups and dating”.

He submitted excerpts of chat messages with the complainant and claimed she had “seduced him and sent him pictures seeking sexual favours despite his reluctance.”
Oberoi was arrested on Sunday after a fashion designer approached the Oshiwara police claiming the actor had sedated and raped her on the pretext of marriage, and then attempted to extort money from her with a video of the act. Oberoi is currently in judicial custody.
In his bail plea filed on Friday, Oberoi’s counsel Dinesh Tiwari submitted, “[She] had resorted to threaten [Oberoi] that she would ensure, through black magic, that he and his entire family is destroyed.
Owing to her torturous behaviour, he blocked her number and blocked her on social media sites.” Oberoi’s bail plea stated the woman got in touch with him through different US-origin numbers and “used his kindness for her advantage to again start the relationship”.
The application also mentioned that Oberoi had filed a non-cognisable (NC) complaint against the woman in October 2018 claiming she was “threatening to implicate him in a false case”.
She, too, had filed an NC complaint against him. Oberoi also accused her of filing a similar complaint against a man in 2008.
The Dindoshi sessions court has scheduled the hearing for Tuesday.
In her complaint, the woman had stated that she met Oberoi through a popular dating app in August 2016, and had told him she wanted a serious relationship. She alleged that he raped her by promising to marry her in January 2017. The next day, Oberoi called her and told her he had made a video of the act and threatened to circulate it.
