Five people arrested in connection with incident

Three people sustained injuries in Mankhurd when two groups clashed following a road accident on Monday. Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The police have registered cross complaints against both the groups involved. According to the police, the incident occurred around 2.30pm at Sathenagar in Mankhurd.

Police said they have registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 307 for attempt to murder against Sanjay Sasane, 46, and his two sons Ramesh, 19, and Pradeep, 21. All three have been arrested.

“Ramesh was riding the bike triple seat when the bike dashed two pedestrians,” said Sanjay Vernekar, senior police inspector, Mankhurd police station. He said that a brawl had ensued.

The two pedestrians –Mehfooz Khan and Mustafa Shaikh – working as labourers got into an argument with Ramesh and two others. “The labourers asked Ramesh to ride properly, which led to an argument. During the altercation, Ramesh and the two others slapped each other in a fit of rage,” said a police officer.

Ramesh raised an alarm, following which his father and brother, who live near where the incident occurred, arrived at the scene. A full-fledged fight ensued in which sharp weapons were used, police said.

Khan and Shaikh sustained injuries on their head and stomach. Pradeep, too, was injured. Based on a complaint by Sasane, the police registered a case against Khan and Shaikh under IPC section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means). They were arrested on Tuesday. One more accused who is a friend of Ramesh has been booked and the police are searching for him.
