Businessman held for assaulting traffic constable in Thane
The accused verbally abused the constable too
A businessman was arrested for assaulting a traffic constable who asked him to stop speeding, in Thane on Friday around 8.15pm.
The accused, Ramesh Balaram Shitkar,45, produces and sells rubber in Thane and other parts of the state. He stays in Vasant Vihar in Thane.
The constable, Dilip Kisan Pawar,33, saw a speeding four-wheeler coming from Gaymukh towards the Cadbury junction, where he was stationed. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Rabodi police.
Pawar waved and asked the driver to stop his car. When Shitkar asked why he was stopped, Pawar asked him to stop speeding. A heated argument ensued between the two.
A few seconds later, Shitkar hit Pawar and abused him. When Pawar tried to defend himself, Shitkar assaulted him further.
“We arrested the businessman immediately, under Sections 353,323 of the Indian Penal Code. He was not drunk at the time of the incident. The matter is being investigated,” said a police inspector from the Rabodi police station.
