A minor fire broke out in the operation theatre of Thane civil hospital on Saturday. No one was injured.

Around three hospital staffers were in the operation theatre when the incident took place.

They immediately reported the incident when they saw smoke billowing from the electrical box.

“The staffers were moved out and our team tried to control the fire with the fire extinguishers placed in the hospital,” said Dr Sangeeta Makode, additional civil surgeon, civil hospital, Thane.

“A team of Regional Disaster Management cell and the fire brigade doused the fire within 20 to 25 minutes,” said Santosh Kadam from RDMC, TMC.

Two weeks ago, old vehicles parked on the hospital premises caught fire. The report on the cause behind the fire is yet to come.

The Thane civil hospital has 336 beds and sees at least 200 patients from across the region.

Doctors have said that civil hospital will be turned into a super specialty hospital soon.
