Fire breaks out inside market near Mumbai’s Malad railway station; no casualties reported

Fire-fighting operations are underway at Gupta Market, which houses the popular sweet shop MM Mithaiwala.

A major fire broke out at Gupta Market, which houses MM Mithaiwala, a popular sweet shop outside Malad (west) station, early on Tuesday morning.

No casualties have been reported so far, but fire-fighting operations are still underway.

After the fire brigade got a call about the blaze at 6.58am, 12 fire engines were rushed to the spot. By mid-day, the fire had been confined to a 5,000 to 7,000 square metre area.

“The fire is now confined,” said chief fire officer PS Rahangdale. “One ambulance and medical staff are also at the spot.”
