Five held in murder of 15-year-old Dalit boy

The Nerul police arrested five men in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old Dalit boy who was killed in Nerul, Navi Mumbai on Tuesday by the family of the girl he was in a relationship with.

The accused have been identified as Sagar Naik, 25, Rajendra Naik, 50, Rajesh Naik, 21, Durgesh Patil, 22 and Ashish Thakur, 23.

The police said the girl’s parents disapproved of the relationship and had threatened the boy earlier. The girl’s brothers visited the teenager’s house on Tuesday and threatened him on his terrace, said the police. Later that night, the victim and his parents visited the girl’s house, where they were attacked by her family.

The Nerul police filed a case of murder, kidnapping and criminal intimidation under the Indian penal code along with relevant sections of the atrocity act.
