
Four men held for abusing, assaulting cop in Vile Parle
The Santacruz police arrested four people for allegedly assaulting a police constable who tried to stop the inebriated group from fighting outside a pub near the Vile Parle (West) skywalk in the early hours of Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Sudhir Zagade, 23, Mahesh Mangela, 25, Savio Miskita, 36 and Manojkumar Upadhyay, 28. The reason for their fight has not yet been determined, said the police.
The police control room received a phone call from the area around 12.45 am. Following this, patrolling constables were sent to the spot. “One of the three constables tried to stop the fight. The men abused, intimidated and manhandled him,” said a police official from the Santacruz police station.
The accused have been booked under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 160 (punishment for committing affray), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced before a magistrate’s court and sent to judicial custody.
Senior police inspector Shantanu Pawar of the Santacruz police station confirmed the development.
