Man killed after assailants attack him, wife with sickle
The couple are residents of Beturkarpada, Kalyan (West) and own a chawl
An elderly couple Lahu Narayan Beturkar, 65, and his wife Jayani Lahu Beturkar, 58, were attacked by unidentified assailants with a sickle when they were asleep around 3.15am on Monday. Lahu was hit brutally many times on his head and chest. He later succumbed to his injuries and died on the spot while wife was injured badly and admitted to a local hospital.
The couple are residents of Beturkarpada, Kalyan (West) and own a chawl. They had been sleeping in a shed near their house when they were attacked.
A case of murder has been registered with Bazarpeth police station. The officials said the assailants are still at large. The motive behind the murder is still unknown, further investigations are on.”
“The victim was a history-sheeter and the reason behind the attack could be internal conflict or even property issues. Our team of four officials are investigating the case and looking at probable angles,” said senior police inspector D.S. Suryawanshi from Bazarpeth.
“He had two wives, three kids from his first wife and two from his second wife. He was residing with his second wife Jayani Lahu Beturkar while the first stayed nearby. We are looking at property struggles. Considering his criminal background, there could be a case of enmity angle,” Suryawanshi added.
The Bazarpeth Police registered an offence under sections 302, 307 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 and 25 of the Arms Act.
