Man nabbed in Mumbai with four country-made pistols

The DN Nagar police have arrested a 34-year-old man who allegedly brought four country-made pistols and bullets from Uttar Pradesh to be sold in Mumbai. The accused has been identified as Shiva Rokde, 34. He is a resident of Mumbra and a native of Pune.

The DN Nagar police said they had received a tip-off that a man would be coming to Andheri bus depot to sell firearms. Acting on the information, a team led by assistant police inspector Shrinivas Chevle dressed in civilian clothes laid a trap and nabbed Rokde around 2pm.

Upon frisking Rokde, the police seized four country-made pistols and four live rounds of 8mm bore from him. He had brought the weapons from Uttar Pradesh, the police said. Rokde had planned to sell the pistols to local criminals, they said.

Senior police inspector Parmeshwar Ganame of DN Nagar police station said, “The accused was produced before a magistrate court on Friday and remanded to police custody for a day.” The accused was produced in court again on Saturday and remanded in judicial custody.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered against Rokde under sections 3 (license for acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition) and 25 (punishment for certain offences) of the Indian Arms Act.
