Last week, the police officer received messages on his mobile phone informing him about three to four transactions.

The officer called the customer care of the bank and got his card blocked.

But the fraudster had withdrawn Rs39,000 by then. According to the procedure, the cop went to his bank and filled a dispute form, after which he was asked to lodge a FIR with the local police station.

Senior police inspector Pandit Thakare confirmed the FIR was lodged on Saturday, but refused to divulge any further details.

Another officer from Bandra police station said, “It is not clear from which ATM the money was withdrawn. We are also probing if money was withdrawn using a cloned card or cyber fraudster stole the data and used it for online shopping.”
