A 35-year-old doctor from Bandra has filed a police complaint against a man whom she met on a matrimonial website for molesting her on multiple occasions and threatening to defame her. The police are on the lookout for the accused.

In all, they met 15 times, and each time he touched her inappropriately and demanded sex, the woman said in her statement.
In all, they met 15 times, and each time he touched her inappropriately and demanded sex, the woman said in her statement.

In her complaint filed earlier this week, she said the accused also borrowed money from her, abused her and threatened to get her fired from her job.

The Bandra police said the woman met the accused through a matrimonial website meant specifically for divorcees, as she had got divorced five years ago and was hoping to remarry. In January, after a few interactions, the accused allegedly proposed to her. He told her that he worked in a private firm and earned between 60,000 and 70,000 per month.

When they met, he told her that his family had no objections to their marriage, and then demanded a sexual relationship, which she said she refused, the police said. In all, they met around 15 times, and each time he would touch her inappropriately and demand sex, the complainant has said in her statement.

He also borrowed 42,000 from her to buy a bike and promised to return the money once he got his salary. However, he later told her that he had lost his job and had no money to pay her back. When the woman asked when they would get married, the accused denied proposing to her and got abusive, the woman told the Bandra police.

“When she asked him for her money, he threatened to defame her in public by visting her building. He also threatened to complain against her to the medical council via an email and get her fired,” the official said.

The woman finally approached the Bandra police earlier this week, following which a First Information Report was registered under sections 354 (molestation), 354A (sexual harassment), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting modesty of a woman by act, gesture or word) of the Indian Penal Code.
