A 39-year-old man was traced and arrested by the Mumbai crime branch for allegedly kidnapping two boys, aged five and seven years, in an attempt to force their mother to marry him in Malwani, Malad (West), on Tuesday.
The police said the woman was living with her two children and the arrested accused had been pressurising her into marrying him for 18 months, despite her rejecting his proposals repeatedly.
According to officials from the crime branch, the arrested accused, Imran Ijaz Khan lived in the same locality where the 35-year-old woman lived .
On October 7, he kidnapped her two sons after offering them lassi and chocolate. He took them to Bazarpeth area in Kalyan, police said.
The woman, after returning home from work found her children missing and rushed to the Malwani police station where an FIR was registered.
The crime branch then began its parallel probe.
“We formed three teams who were spread across Mumbai and Thane districts. Based on a tip-off, he was traced in Bazarpeth. He had kept the children in a hotel. We followed him and we nabbed him. The children were safe,” said unit head, inspector Chimmaji Adhav.
According to the police, Khan was booked in a cheating case nearly a decade ago.
