Mumbai man repeatedly calls colleague, passes lewd comments, demands sex, arrested

According to the Santacruz police, the accused worked as a driver of the owner of a firm where the woman was also employed.

The Santacruz police on Monday arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly passing lewd comments and harassing a 45-year-old woman on the phone for three days last month.

According to the Santacruz police, the accused worked as a driver of the owner of a firm where the woman was also employed.

According to the police, the woman received several telephone calls from an unknown number where the accused demanded to have sex with the woman.

The calls were made from July to 14 July, the police said. The woman filed an FIR under section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code against the unknown accused. When the accused somehow learnt that the victim has approached police, he left for his home town in Uttar Pradesh, according to the police.

The police, through call records and other technical evidence, learnt he was behind the crime. Acting on a tip off,the accused, who returned to Andheri (West), was arrested. His advocate Sandeep Sherkhane said, “The magistrate court has granted him bail after he deposited Rs 15,000.”
